Wie der interessierte Leser weis, gibt es in Kapstadt nicht nur die Sonnenseite des Lebens zu sehen. Insbesondere in den Townships herrscht pure Not. Viele Initiativen versuchen, diese Not etwas zu lindern. Schwerpunkt liegt in der Hilfe zur Selbsthilfe. Dieser Blog berichtet über den Bau eines Kindergartens in einem Township außerhalb von Kapstadt. Unterstützt werden sie dabei von deutschen Freiwilligen, welche in diesem Blog auch über ihre Erlebnisse schreiben.

My name is Nomonde Buthelezi, I am the principal at LUVUYO KINDERGARTEN, which is situated in Mfuleni.
MFULENI is a small township located just 40km outside CAPE TOWN CBD, SOUTH AFRICA; it is one of the poorest of the poor communities in the Western Cape. It has a high rate of unemployment, crime, poverty, teenage pregnancies, substance abuse and HIV/Aids amongst other challenges.
We, however are still faced with a dilemma, or rather a challenge: It is quite a challenge to have the members of the community to come and volunteer. Lets just say the word ‘volunteer’ doesn’t really exist in their vocabulary. The community of Mfuleni is hungry, they work most of the time and those that are unemployed are always looking for work, to be able to put food in their children’s mouths, it is difficult for them to work for free, they just don’t understand it at all, especially when ‘work’ involves hard labour. They are used to getting an incentive at the end of a hard day.
There is plenty of work to be done and we are running against time, I am therefore praying to God that we get more people to come and help and also hope and wish that this doesn’t bring the spirit of the team down. We will do all what we can from our side to get more help.
