A short comparison of each suburb

We want to introduce you to the districts of Cape Town.

With (+) are the points provided, which are positive,  (-) are the arguments to the contrary.

City centre

City Bowl / city centre

  • + close proximity to Long Street (nightclubs, bars, etc.) and many offices
  • - in the evening / night deserted
  • - except in Companies Garden little green space
  • - relatively expensive

Gardens

  • + close to Long Street (nightclubs, bars, etc.) and many offices
  • + nice view of Table Mountain and Lions Head
  • + relatively cheap
  • + relatively safe area

Bo Kaap

  • + close close to Long Street (nightclubs, bars, etc.) and many offices
  • + beautiful old Muslim architecture
  • + nice view of Table Mountain and Lions Head
  • + relatively cheap
  • + relatively safe area
  • - limited supply of rooms

Observatory

  • + student district, close proximity to the UCT University of Cape Town
  • + nightlife
  • + inexpensive
  • - relatively high crime
  • - relatively far from beaches

Atlantic side

Green Point

  • + close proximity to the World Cup stadium, the public park and the Waterfront
  • + aspiring neighborhood with bars, restaurants and shopping centers
  • + close to Long Street (nightclubs, bars, etc.) and many offices
  • + relatively safe area
  • - relatively expensive

Sea Point

  • + wide range of restaurants, cafes, supermarkets, internet cafes, etc.
  • + beautiful beach promenade for jogging or walking
  • + nice large public swimming pool
  • + central located between the city cente and Camps Bay
  • - relatively densely built-up, especially near the beach
  • - relatively expensive

Clifton / Camps Bay

  • +uniquely situated on the Atlantic coast
  • + fantastic beaches
  • + Los Angeles style Boulevard in Camps Bay, with bars, restaurants and night clubs
  • + safe area
  • - very expensive
  • - about half an hour drive to the city during rush hour

Blouberg

  • + fanstastic beach
  • + fantastic views of city and Table Mountain and Robben Island
  • + very cheap
  • + relatively safe area
  • - a hour’s drive to the city during rush hour
  • - restaurants / bars / nightlife not comparable with City Bowl

Southern districts

Rondebosch / Newlands

  • + not as touristy
  • + relatively cheap
  • + good rail connections to the city
  • - relatively far from beaches
  • - relatively safe

Muizenberg / Fish Hoek and Kalk Bay / Simons Town / Strand

  • + beautiful beach on False Bay (hot water)
  • + very cheap
  • + good rail connections to the city
  • - a hour’s drive to the city during rush hour
  • - relatively high crime

Townships

  • + not a tourist area / authentic
  • + inexpensive
  • - high crime
  • - poor Instrastruktur
