Stellenbosch is considered the heart of the Cape Winelands and a visit here is not complete without a tour of the wineries – so why spit if you can swallow? Ditch the car and jump on the Vine Hopper bus for maximum enjoyment of some of the greatest wines in the world.
The Vine Hopper tour bus is a great value way of seeing Stellenbosch’s finest wineries, with a choice of a one-day ticket (R170) or a two-day ticket (R300), and either the Northern Route or the Southern Route to take (with a two-day ticket, you can do both).
On either of these routes, you can visit up to six wineries and have a jolly old time tasting the goods (though the ticket does not include wine tasting fees, which differ at each estate but are minimal). You jump off the bus at the wineries you’d like to see, and the bus driver will give an approximation of when he will be stopping by again to move on to the next.
You get around an hour at each wine estate – it seems a long time but with approximately 8 wines to taste at each, you’ll find the time just whizzes by.
The Vine Hopper can be booked at Stellenbosch Tourism Bureau at 36 Market Street, in Stellenbosch town centre. Wine tasting fees to do six wineries in one day are likely to be around R80, which is very reasonable. Cheers!
