Christmas activities

In the weeks leading up to Christmas, the city bustles with excitement. The start of December is when the Christmas lights in Adderley Street are switched on: a colourful celebration that delights parents and children alike. This event is coupled with a Christmas night market, great live entertainment and the coming together of 50,000 people. Stellenbosch holds the much anticipated Christmas Carols under the Stars event, which takes place at the Oude Libertas Amphitheatre on 19 and20 December. Every December the Cape carnival starts and Adderley Street is filled with the Cape coons who have many colourful and bright outfits which brighten up the faces of the locals.
