Beaches of Cape Town – Part 2

Clifton Beach and Camps Bay we have already presented. Let’s look at the other two beaches.

Muizenberg at the False Bay

The former most beautiful seaside resort of Cape Town will rise again. In the nineties, characterized by abandoned houses along the beach promenade, run-down shops and drug trafficking, he is already a worthwhile object. It is recommended to arrive by train (sure thing) direct on the beach. After brief 45 minutes by train you can reach the small station, which borders the beach. The rail price is unbeatable, less than 2 €.

That’s not worthwhile to rent a car. The trains are driving back to the city till 19.30. From the platform you have already a good view of miles of beach. Biggest plus is the nice warm sea water, not to be compared with the Atlantic side. The biggest drawback is the presence of sharks. There the concentration of sharks is one of the highest in the world. With a queasy feeling you go into the water, despite monitoring by the shark spotters. On the adjacent hill is always an observer, which overlooks the beach district and gives alarm if there is a danger. A flag system is informing whether you can safely swim in the sea or should let it go. In the middle area of the beach are sections for surfers, then go away for windsurfers. The equipment you can rent cheap. This beach is known for the colourful booths where you can change your clothes. A photo can be found in most guidebooks.

In principle, the same statements (up to length of the beach) apply to Kalk Bay and Fish Hoek.

Bloubergstrand

This beach is also perfect. There is usually a fresh breeze, so it is there a top spot for every surfer. The water is also nice and cold, but the view is unique to Cape Town with Devils Peak, Table Mountain and Lions Head. One reason that the beach for tourists is not so announced is due to its location. If you are coming from the city centre it is relatively quick by car, except for rush hour, but with public transport it is very cumbersome and long.
